Crozer Health Recognized in National Competition Aimed at Developing Innovative Ideas for High-Value, Low-Cost Health Care

Dr. Thakur’s submission was a finalist for the “Teaching Value” track of the contest.
Crozer Health recently received a special recognition and had one of its submissions named as a finalist in the 2017 Creating Value Challenge competition. The competition, sponsored by The ABIM Foundation, Costs of Care and The Leapfrog Group, allows healthcare professionals from any level of training or discipline to share their innovative ideas and projects for teaching and implementing high-value healthcare at lower costs.
Crozer Health internal medicine physician Kshitij Thakur, M.D., entered seven submissions. One of his submissions, “Choosing Wisely® Jeopardy: An Innovative Tool to Teach High-Value Care,” was a finalist for the “Teaching Value” track of the contest. “This format of game-based lectures is a beneficial tool to integrate the recommendations of the Choosing Wisely campaign into residency training,” said Thakur, who is the associate program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, in the abstract of the submission.
According to the Choosing Wisely website, the campaign is an initiative by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) that aims to promote clinicians and patients choosing care that is supported by evidence, not duplicative of other tests or procedures already received, free from harm and truly necessary.
Crozer Health was one of seven institutions that received special congratulations and recognition for its efforts. “Just as we recognize health systems that excel, we also were gratified to see organizations that appear to be on a tireless journey of improvement, with one project after another leading them to even greater achievements in quality and efficiency,” said Leah Binder, CEO of The Leapfrog Group. Crozer Health was the only community health system on the list of recognition.
“This recognition is a boost for all of our efforts to teach our residents about value-based and cost-conscious care in the Department of Medicine,” said Thakur.
