Crozer Health Earns Top Recognition for its Efforts to Promote Organ Donation

Crozer Health recently earned a Platinum Level Distinction (the highest level possible) for its outstanding efforts in the 2016 Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s Donate Life Hospital Challenge. The annual five-month campaign, held from April to August each year, is designed to encourage hospitals to raise awareness of the critical need for organ donation and challenges hospitals throughout the state to serve as ambassadors of Hope, Advocacy and Passion for the 5,400 patients throughout the region who are awaiting a transplant from a deceased organ donor.

“As a health system, we are uniquely positioned to not only tend to the health of our patients but to inspire our community to be mindful of wellness in all aspects of life,” says Michael Curran, president of Crozer-Chester Medical Center, which is the primary home for the Crozer Health Regional Kidney Transplant Program. “The more people we can inspire to become organ donors, the better we can serve our mission to be advocates for the well-being of our entire community.”

In the Donate Life Hospital Challenge, hospitals and health systems are awarded points for completing a range of activities, from holding clinical meetings and presentations to hosting and participating in community education events. This year’s Donate Life Hospital Challenge began on April 1, which is National Donate Life Month.

Becoming an organ donor takes less than 60 seconds. Each donor has the ability to save up to 8 lives through organ transplantation and enhance the lives of 50 more through tissue donation. For more information or to register your designation, visit www.donatelife.org.
