Crozer Health’s Sarah Morchen, M.D. Achieves Lifestyle Medicine Board Certification

Published: Jan. 04, 2023

Sarah Morchen, M.D., a Crozer Health Medical Group Family Medicine practitioner, recently received certification in Lifestyle Medicine.

Lifestyle Medicine is an approach to patient care that addresses the root causes of disease with evidence-based therapies in lifestyle behaviors such as diet, exercise, sleep, social connectivity, and stress. Crozer Health supports this approach because by educating patients in these areas, it empowers them to make positive changes in their lifestyle behaviors that will improve their health, prevent chronic disease progression, and even reverse chronic disease.

“Congratulations, Sarah,” said William Warning, M.D., Program Director of the Crozer-Keystone Family Medicine Residency Program. “We are all very proud of this amazing accomplishment.”

Dr. Morchen joins Deborah Malloy, D.O. as the only Lifestyle Medicine-certified physicians in the Crozer Health network and are likely among just a few in the Philadelphia region.

“Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based field of medicine that addresses nutrition, exercise, sleep, social connectedness, and stress management,” said Dr. Morchen. “This additional training in Lifestyle Medicine has given me the education and skills to better address these aspects of health with my patients. I want to empower them to make positive changes to their health to prevent, treat, and in some cases, reverse chronic disease.”

In July 2021, Crozer Health integrated the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum into its Family Medicine Residency Program. It is one of only 13 Family Medicine programs in the country to offer this curriculum and the only program in the Philadelphia region to do so.

In addition to its Family Medicine Residency Program, Crozer Health offers residency programs in emergency medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN, podiatry, psychiatry, sports medicine fellowship, and transitional year and ultrasound fellowship (emergency medicine).
