At the Crozer Health Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Program, we’re proud of our success – and we have the awards and honors from prestigious organizations to back it up.

MBSAQIP Accredited

Crozer-Chester Medical Center is fully accredited by the MBSAQIP as a comprehensive center.

MBSAQIP, or the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, is a national accreditation standard for bariatric surgery centers that was created by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

This designation helps identify where patients can expect to receive the safest and most effective surgical treatment.

To earn the designation, all aspects of the program’s surgical processes were closely examined and data on health outcomes was collected. Crozer-Chester Medical Center and other centers receiving the Comprehensive Center accreditation agree to continue to share information on clinical pathways, protocols and outcomes data.

Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility

The Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Program at Crozer-Chester Medical Center has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility for consistently delivering evidence-based, quality care.

Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of healthcare services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their healthcare needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

Independence Blue Cross Blue Distinction Center (BDC) and Blue Distinction Center+ (BDC+) 

The Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Program has been named a Center of Excellence by the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association. The program has been designated as a BDC+ for gastric stapling and BDC for gastric banding.* 

Blue Distinction Center and Blue Distinction Center+ are national designation programs, developed in collaboration with the medical community, to recognize those facilities that demonstrate their commitment to delivering quality specialty care, safely efficiently and cost-effectively.

Blue Health Intelligence "Top Performing Facility"

Crozer-Chester Medical Center was recognized as a top performing bariatric program for having one of the lowest rates of potentially avoidable complications (PACs) in the country.

Crozer demonstrated the best year-over-year performance in bariatric surgery based on analysis conducted by Blue Health Intelligence^®, the nation's premier health intelligence resource in collaboration with Independence Blue Cross and other participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. Crozer's PAC complication rate was just 0.04 percent compared to a nationwide average of 6.7 percent.
