I Have Diabetes…Where Do I Start?
Step 1: Diabetes Evaluation Class
Topic covered: an overview of diabetes; possible causes, symptoms, recommended action for hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia; benefits of exercise; overview of medications and foot care. Review American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines: blood sugar goals, Hemoglobin A1c, and Standards of Care.
Step 2: Diabetes Nutrition Counseling
The Diabetes Nutrition Counseling at The Center for Diabetes provides a comprehensive review and discussion to help patients understand and manage their diabetes through healthy eating. This is a two hour class for those who have completed an ADA program, need a refresher or desire nutrition education only. An individual meal plan will be provided.
Step 3: Choose Your Own Classes
After you complete your initial Diabetes class the instructor will offer you the remaining ADA recognized Diabetes program. This includes three hours of Nutrition with an individualized meal plan, as well as instruction from a registered nurse, pharmacist, and exercise physiologist. You may choose an all-day class or a series of three classes.

Diabetes Nurse Evaluation - Single Instruction
Instruction is available based on specific individual needs. This evaluation provides instruction on self-administration of insulin or injectables.

Diabetes Intensive Insulin Management Program
This class is designed for the person on multi-dose injections of insulin or those that are interested in insulin pump therapy.
Introduction to Insulin Pump Therapy & Continuous Glucose Monitoring
This free one hour class will help determine if an insulin pump is right for you. The presentation is hands-on with currently available insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems. To schedule an appointment, please call (610) 328-8918.
Many class registration fees are also covered by insurance.
The Center for Diabetes accepts most major insurance plans.
Medicare requires a physician signature. This can be obtained from your primary care physician in the form of a prescription for Diabetes self-management training and/or medical nutrition therapy.
