Mission Statement and Program Effectiveness
Mission Statement
The Widener-Crozer Allied Health Program is committed to quality health services for its community.
Through a cooperative effort of the School Faculty and Imaging Staff, the program provides quality education in Radiologic Technology for individuals in the community.
Through a structured and integrated curriculum, the program provides the student radiographer with the knowledge and skills needed to be a valuable partner of the healthcare team and to successfully meet present and future challenges.
Background of the School of Radiologic Technology
The administration of the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, in addition to operating a primary care facility, realizes the value of this Medical Center for teaching purposes. This dual role has offered the community comprehensive medical care and educational opportunities for area residents in a vast variety of technical and professional fields. One of these healthcare fields is the program in Diagnostic Radiology.
The Program in Radiologic Technology established in 1948, has continuously educated students in the Art and Science of this field. Modern and sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic equipment is available for the student’s clinical experiences, along with a well-equipped classroom facility and experienced program faculty. Under the supervision of the professional staff and clinical instructors, the student radiographer will acquire skills to perform the diagnostic examinations which are indispensable to modern medicine. Graduates of this program are prepared for a career in Diagnostic Radiology in a hospital, private practice, public health or the military.
The course of study in Radiologic Technology offered by the Crozer-Chester Medical Center follows the approved curriculum of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), under the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Education. Graduates are eligible to apply for admission to the certifying examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
The program curriculum provides a correlated sequence of studies and clinical practice in radiography in order to prepare qualified candidates to assist the Radiologists in the diagnosis of various illnesses and diseases.
Students are instructed in the basic sciences, radiographic techniques, while simultaneously being introduced to the practical aspects of radiology under the supervision of registered technologists. The students rotate through all areas of the Radiology Department to acquire training in the care of patients of all types, from all age groups and in all stages of illness.
On June 23, 2012, Crozer-Chester Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology formed an articulation agreement with Widener University. The school, now known as Widener-Crozer Allied Health Program in Radiologic Technology, was established and continues to be owned and operated by Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
The Widener-Crozer Allied Health Program has additional affiliates with Gwynedd Mercy University, Bloomsburg University and Immaculata University.
