A Message from the Program Director
Welcome to our Psychiatry Program! As the Program Director, I am honored to introduce you to a dynamic and comprehensive training experience designed to cultivate the next generation of compassionate and skilled psychiatrists.
Our program provides a robust and supportive learning environment where residents can develop the knowledge, skills, and professionalism necessary to excel in psychiatry. We offer a diverse range of clinical experiences, from inpatient and outpatient settings to community mental health and specialized treatment centers, ensuring our residents gain exposure to a wide spectrum of psychiatric conditions and patient populations.
Our curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to integrate the latest advancements in psychiatric research with hands-on clinical practice. Residents benefit from close mentorship by our esteemed faculty, who are leaders in their respective fields and committed to fostering a culture of inquiry, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
We place a strong emphasis on holistic and patient-centered care, recognizing the importance of addressing the psychological, social, and biological aspects of mental health. Our program also prioritizes resident well-being, offering resources and support systems to promote a healthy work-life balance and professional growth.
We invite you to explore our Psychiatry Residency Program and discover the unique opportunities we offer for training and development. Join us in our mission to advance mental health care and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our patients and communities.
Crozer Health Psychiatry Residency Program, now in its Fourth year. Crozer Psychiatry participated in Match 2022-2023, adding a strong group of PGY1 residents to our current PGY2s and PGY3s. We are eager to meet this year’s group of applicants! Though I’m new to the role of PD, psychiatrists Dr. Juan Gan (PD emeritus and now department chairman) and Dr. Mildred Fajardo (Associate PD) continue in their roles. Our chief resident, Dr. Talmage Nielsen, and co-chief resident Robert Duprey knows the ins and outs of our program and is ready to answer questions about the residency. Our program coordinator, Ms. Kelli Taylor (PC) facilitates applicant-program communication and scheduling.
The bedrock of our program is its community setting in Chester, PA, a diverse population with many in underserved demographics with significant psychiatric and psychosocial challenges. We also attract psychiatric patients from urban and suburban Philadelphia. With so many patients to see, residency at Crozer is busy: emergency room, short-stay psychiatric crisis unit, inpatient adult and geropsychiatry units, outpatient community psychiatry clinic. Psych residents also rotate through the internal medicine, family medicine and neurology services. Residents can explore areas of interest through independent scholarly activity and electives. As an ACGME-certified program, services not currently active at Crozer are provided in collaboration with area facilities. To say this is a rich clinical environment is an understatement.
Crozer Psychiatry seeks well-prepared, passionate applicants who are dedicated to life-long learning and eager to become excellent psychiatrists. Our goal is to prepare well-rounded residents for independent practice. If this interests you, come explore all Crozer has to offer.
