Lung Cancer Screening

Cutting Edge for Treatment for Lung Cancer

Crozer Health uses the latest technology to detect and treat lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer death. Our Monarch® Platform for Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy can detect diagnose small and hard-to-reach nodules earlier and more accurately than traditional methods.

Many lung cancers do not cause symptoms until they have spread. It's important to get screening done early to catch it before it does.

Why Get Screened for Lung Cancer?

Lung cancer usually shows no obvious symptoms until it is in a late-stage when it is difficult to treat. Early-stage lung cancer is more likely to be treatable and curable.

A landmark study published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that screening high-risk patients using a low-dose CT scan can detect lung tumors early and can reduce the lung cancer mortality rate by 20 percent for smokers.

Who Should Get Screened for Lung Cancer?

Healthy individuals 55-80 who are current or former smokers with at least a 30 pack per year smoking history (a “pack year” is the number of packs smoked daily multiplied by the number of years smoking; examples of 30-pack years include: 1 pack per day for 30 years; ½ pack per day for 60 years, 2 packs per day for 15 years)

Former smokers must have quit within the last 15 years.

A physician’s order is needed to be scheduled for the screening.

The Latest Technology for the Best Care

Crozer Health is a Center of Excellence for lung screening and offers a Lung Screening Program using low-dose CT scans.

The Monarch® Robotic Platform allows our thoracic surgeon to access the airways of your lungs to both take precise, clear images and perform procedures. This revolutionary technology allows unprecedented views inside your lungs, enabling surgeons to both diagnose and treat issues precisely and accurately. A tiny endoscope allows your surgeon to see farther than ever before, and instinctive controls enable careful, exact movements, always keeping your comfort and safety at the forefront.

The da Vinci Xi Robotic Platform brings together the power of advanced technologies with our surgeons’ skills.  All movements are controlled by the surgeon sitting at a console in the same operating room.  Sophisticated technology increases the precision of movement. The robotic instruments go through incisions less than the size of a quarter
