Simulation Training and Simulation Center

Crozer-Chester Medical Center offers a state-of-the-art hospital simulation center at the Chief Robert Reeder Multidisciplinary Simulation and Education Center to provide hands-on clinical education, training, and simulation to healthcare professionals and students. Through the use of advanced patient simulator mannequins and task trainers, physicians, residents, nurses, paramedics, and other health care professionals can learn about a variety of potentially high-risk patient care scenarios in a safe environment.

Located on the first floor of Crozer-Chester, the training and simulation center is designed to resemble a small-scale hospital. The sim center consists of separate rooms for lectures and individual skills training, as well as breakout rooms that mimic hospital settings, including medical/surgical, pediatrics and emergency departments, operating rooms, and other clinical settings.

Instructors for the training and simulation lab originate from a wide variety of specialties and departments, including anesthesia, emergency medicine, EMS, internal medicine, nursing, OB/GYN, pediatrics, surgery, and trauma.

Patient Simulator Mannequins

Healthcare professionals learn specific skills using state-of-the-art, interactive equipment, including but not limited to patient simulator mannequins, Sim Man, Sim Baby, and Trauma Man.

Sim Man is a high-fidelity, computer-controlled mannequin designed to simulate any type of clinical experience. Sim Man is used for Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses and has a pulse at the usual pulse points (carotid, radial, and femoral), blood pressure, respiration, and electrocardiography (ECG) waves. Sim Man can take a live defibrillator shock, has an arm for venous cannulation, and an anatomically-correct airway for endotracheal intubation. When users ask Sim Man what is wrong, he is programmed with a number of verbal responses for healthcare professionals to make appropriate care decisions.

Sim Baby replicates an infant and is used in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses.

Trauma Man is used to teach advanced trauma life support (ATLS) to physicians, enabling physicians or residents to practice trauma surgical procedures, including tube thoracostomy, and needle and surgical cricothyrotomy.
