Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy for TMJ and TMD

A physical therapist can develop a program for you that includes learning and practicing techniques for regaining normal jaw movement.

The focus of physical therapy for temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) is relaxation, stretching and releasing tight muscles and scar tissue. Physical therapy is an especially important part of recovery from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) joint surgery, as it helps minimize scar tissue formation and muscle tightness.

Rehabilitation Services

Amputee Rehabilitation

Each year, more than 130,000 individuals in the United States undergo the amputation of a limb and face a challenging period of physical recovery. More than that, they must deal with a full range of complex psychological, emotional and social issues.

Crozer Health ’s team of amputee rehabilitation specialists understands this and works closely with each patient to help restore strength and confidence, regain function and mobility, and build an independent and rewarding life.

Our comprehensive approach to amputee rehabilitation focuses on the post-surgical, prosthetic and outpatient/reintegration phases to:

• Address proper wound care and limb management,
• Increase an individual's strength, flexibility, coordination and endurance, and decrease pain,
• Provide the expert fitting and custom-manufacture of a prosthesis to meet personal lifestyle needs, and
• Train individuals to use their prosthesis with confidence and comfort, and avoid complications.

Audiology Testing & Hearing Aid Dispensing

We offer comprehensive audiology and hearing aid services for newborns to older adults at four of our hospitals. Each site provides complete care - from the initial exam to dispensing and servicing hearing aids to evaluations for patients who may be experiencing a variety of hearing-related challenges.

Cancer Rehabilitation

Cancer treatment may include patient’s who have undergone surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and/or other treatment as a result of this devastating disease. They may also experience a wide range of complications, including damage to the nervous system, radiation fibrosis, lymphedema, fatigue, memory loss and a variety of other often painful and function-limiting conditions.

Crozer Health ’s Cancer Rehabilitation Team carefully addresses the range of challenges and concerns of patients who are dealing with the effects of this disease and its treatment.

Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation is a structured, monitored program that aims to increase physical fitness and strengthen the heart’s tolerance for exercise. For those patients who have suffered a heart attack or are recovering from cardiothoracic surgery.

Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation

Crozer Health offers comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, conditions and ailments affecting the hand and wrist. Our certified hand therapists are an important treatment resource, as well, because they provide one-on-one rehabilitative services that are essential to a successful recovery.

Occupational Therapy

Crozer Health’s occupational therapy team assists the patients in developing the skills to take care of themselves when a health problem limits normal, day-to-day activity, such as bathing, dressing, eating, preparing meals, doing housework and managing personal business.

Orthopedic Rehabilitation

Whether you've suffered a sports injury or undergone recent orthopedic surgery, orthopedic rehabilitation is an important part of your recovery. Our rehabilitation specialists work together to quickly and safely restore function.

Pediatric Development Therapy

The Division of Developmental Pediatrics at Crozer provides evaluation and guidelines for managing care for children with a variety of motor, genetic, cognitive, behavioral, communicative and learning disorders. Pediatric specialists within the department work collaboratively across disciplines to diagnose and treat developmental disorders in children from birth to adolescence.

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

Urinary incontinence and certain pelvic pain disorders can be successfully treated with physical therapy. Crozer Health’s team of female physical therapists is specially trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation. Treatment duration is individualized and typically lasts from four to six sessions. The physical therapists work closely with physicians to provide coordination of care.

Post-Concussion Services

A concussion is a jarring brain injury that is caused by a bump or blows to the head. Even though the bump or blow may seem mild, a concussion can be a serious medical problem. Crozer Health offers specialized care from a team of experts trained in the detection and treatment of traumatic and sports concussion.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Chronic respiratory illness doesn’t have to slow you down. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a safe and effective way to help the participant feel better, grow stronger, reduce stress and improve the quality of daily living.

Sports Rehabilitation

At Crozer Health, we believe athletes need specialized care that is different from routine physical therapy. Whether you are a recreational runner or varsity football star, we understand that you want to get back to your sport as quickly as possible.

Our Physical Therapists work closely with the Sports Medicine Team to keep you in the game whenever possible. Your rehabilitation protocol will be catered to your specific injury and level of fitness and will include supervised exercise and hands-on manual therapy. We will be sure to keep you physically challenged as you recover.

Stroke and Neurological Rehabilitation

Recovering from a stroke can be one of the greatest challenges a person will ever face. However, research shows that early and specialized stroke rehabilitation can help to optimize an individual's physical and cognitive recovery and enhance the quality of life.

Trauma Rehabilitation

Multiple trauma is a number of injuries sustained during the same accident, fall, assault, etc. Fortunately, rehabilitation can help patients reach their long-term treatment goals faster. Crozer Health is committed to providing every opportunity for optimal recovery of traumatically injured patients. Our experienced teams of professionals offer extensive, comprehensive rehabilitation programs for patients recovering from traumatic conditions such as closed head, spinal cord and multi-trauma/multi-system injuries. Our team approach provides each patient with an individualized plan of care based on his or her specific rehabilitation needs.

Vestibular/Balance Rehabilitation

Balance and dizziness conditions can have several causes, including vestibular (balance system) problems, neurologic disease and cardiac disease. Our multidisciplinary team is committed to helping you get back to the way of life you enjoy.

Regional Rehabilitation Centers

Crozer Health offers comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation at the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Ridley Park. Our goal is to help patients who have had major medical problems regain their highest level of function possible and return to the least restrictive living environment.
